A tough afternoon's hockey for Ben Rhydding’s men

Ben Rhydding faced their biggest challenge of their season so far, when they went to play top of the table side Leeds, away at Weetwood. Despite Ben Rhydding’s strong start to the season, it was 2-nil to Leeds within the first 5 minutes and by the end of the first half the score had reached 5-nil. Nevertheless, Ben Rhydding did create a few chances of their own in the first half, notably when striker Charlie Smith came up one-on-one with the Leeds keeper.

Rhydding played a very strong third quarter, building some pressure of their own and showing real resilience. The Leeds goal in the dying seconds of the quarter seemed incredibly harsh. Again, in the fourth quarter the going become tough for Ben Rhydding as they conceded another 3 goals, making the full-time score 9 – 0.

It was clearly not Ben Rhydding’s day but a lucky defensive deflection over the keeper’s head and a cruel 3rd quarter goal against the run of play made this a flattering score line for Leeds.
